What is a good renaming command.

Iwant to automatically rename a list of files. the name outcome would be fsa_01 on to about fsa_100

What can put in as my variable. Thank you and this is a great linux tool.

You need: <filename>_<##>

In case your filename is fixed, you should use:
fsa_<##>

In case you want fsa_001 to fsa_100, you can write:
fsa_<###>

It is not just a linux tool, but also works perfectly on Mac or Windows. But it is developed on linux (ubuntu).

How do I get it to start at 01 instead of 00 that is the default?

Currently, there is no way to do this. You can file a blueprint for it on launchpad if you like to see this in a next release. It should not be difficult to implement. Right now a work a round would be to duplicate the first image (so it gets both 00 and 01).

When renaming files are you re-sampling them? I don't want to rename jpgs and have them compressed further.

It depends which action you choose. If you choose the rename action, no re-sampling is done. It is just like renaming in your operating system. If you choose the save action, re-sampling is done.
