Is it possible to create ganged images with this program?
Like a magazine spread, with two vertical-orientated images side by side?

I'm looking for something I can run automatically on our Linux server, that will take two images and create a single ganged image.

You might want to use imagemagick.

montage -geometry WIDTHxHEIGHT+PADDINGLEFTRIGHT+PADDINGUPDOWN -bordercolor white -border SIZE -tile COLUMNSxROWS -background black 00*.jpg tiles.png
For example:
montage -geometry 400x+2+2 -bordercolor white -border 10 -tile 2x1 -background black *.jpg tiles.png
will resize your images to 400px wide, height will be proportional but not specified, a 10 pixel white border around each image, and then a 2px padding all around that with a black background.
